2014 Aleksander Reserve

Our Merlot vineyard, now 30 years old, really shows its grace and true varietal character in this 69% Merlot / 31% Cabernet Sauvignon blend. The garnet core carries hints of leather on the nose, underneath dominant aromas of rich black cherry and ripe pomegranate. The medium-body mouthfeel at the start is deceptive as the wine begins to open up on the mid-palate and finishes with a much bigger presence in weight and texture than expected. This wine exhibits essence of sweet black currant, warm raspberry tarte and silky dark chocolate throughout, with an earthy freshness at finish. Soft tannins from 36 months in a combination of French and Serbian oak barrels support the fruit without interfering. All in all, a very elegant wine on its own but also versatile when paired with virtually all meats, chicken, pastas and flavorful grilled fish.
